Galatea is a mythical child who uses her supernatural powers to play with building blocks.
The mysterious wave of power of the building blocks spreads outward, erasing the walls of the room, and the plant pattern of the heavy curtains that spread across the floor overlaps with the trees outside, leading to a rural landscape with ancient ruins.
This work removes the boundary between the inside and outside of the world, expressing a space that seems to be both.
Pygmalion is a king of Cyprus who appears in Greek mythology. Disappointed with real women, he sculpted his ideal woman. He eventually fell in love with his sculpture (Galatea) and gave her various education.
The movie "My Fair Lady" and the novel "Daddy Long Legs" were inspired by this myth.
This work was produced using lithography techniques based on the original pen drawing from 2023. The combination of the two plates, with the first color picking up the delicate pale tones and the second color tightening the picture with a strong black, has resulted in a work that retains the tension of the original.
