Tennoz Contemporary

ATSUHIKO SUEMATSU GALLERY is pleased to participate in Tennoz Contemporary, an art fair held as part of TENNOZ ART WEEK 2026, taking place in Tokyo's Tennoz area from September 10 (Thu) to September 13 (Sun), 2026.

Tennoz Contemporary is an art fair bringing together galleries and art spaces from Japan and abroad at TERRADA ART COMPLEX. This year, 38 galleries and spaces will participate. Following last year's collaboration, GALLERY HAM, STANDING PINE, and ATSUHIKO SUEMATSU GALLERY will jointly present an exhibition within the STANDING PINE space.

ATSUHIKO SUEMATSU GALLERY will present works by Junsuke Yokoyama, whose solo exhibition Touch opens at the gallery on September 12, alongside works by Kazuo Okazaki, Masakazu Horiuchi, and Alberto Giacometti.

Junsuke Yokoyama began his artistic practice as a self-taught painter and later developed both painting and sculptural works in parallel. For Yokoyama, sculpture is not a separate mode of expression from painting, but rather a form of “painting” expanded into three-dimensional space.

Sculpture and painting, two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality, body and space—through works spanning different periods and artistic approaches, this presentation explores how artists have engaged with the acts of seeing and creating form.

By viewing Yokoyama's works in dialogue with diverse ideas found in twentieth-century sculpture and art, the exhibition invites reconsideration of a fundamental question: What is sculpture?
